"Local Cache" at *our* site, means all users proxy through Squid on the
border host. "L" in LAN means Local. Present behavior of \ beats on the
inner bandwidth, Squid gives them back the same info... a lot.
The variables that make lynx do proper proxy requests are preset for our
users in the global profile. This prevents end-users from screwing
something up...
I can tell that *your* definition of "Local Cache" means "each user has
their very own copy running under their own uid". We're not doing that.
At most academic/library sites I can't imagine end-users being able to
set up these things, or the admins wanting to spare limited resource
on end-users like that anyway. And I still haven't seen you put URLs
where your mouth is for these caches on non-UNIX systems.
