In this case, I think
% cat bin.data | mutt address@hidden
would have done it. Stdin is the default, and "-a -"
apparently doesn't work as a synonym.
A snippet of my (somewhat old) mutt manual:
Mutt also supports a ``batch'' mode to send prepared messages.
Simply redirect input from the file you wish to send. For
example,
mutt -s "data set for run #2" address@hidden < ~/run2.dat
This command will send a message to address@hidden''
with a subject of ``data set for run #2''. In the body of the
message will be the contents of the file ``~/run2.dat''.
