You can easily increase the time that messages are displayed.

Although it is not particularly easy, virtually all of those messages
are gettexted, so you could make your own catalogue of understandable
messages. As long as NLS is compiled into Lynx, you could maintain your
own compiled message catalogue and point Lynx to it with the TEXTDOMAIN
and TEXTDOMAINDIR environment variables.
