This sounds like an instance of XML.

The right command line solution to this is to use an XML parser,
not a general web browser. I'm not sure if nsgmls (as used by
validator.w3.org) is up to this, but it would be a sensible starting
point for traditional SGML Electronic Data Interchange documents.
