Thanks Mark, All

for the responses.

The make went fine after I put the directory for ar in my path (i never 
heard of ar before) but when I tried to run it it blew up on a message of
Configuration file /opt/LYNX271/lib/lynx.cfg not available.

Since it's quite apparent from all your comments that I have an older 
version of Lynx I'm just going to start over with a newer one.

Again...thanks all for the input...it was much appreciated.
