Many Lynx developers believe this should not be a design goal of Lynx.

On UNIX systems, I believe Lynx respects the setting of the environment
variable TMPDIR, so in a POSIX shell try:

    TMPDIR=`pwd` lynx
or:
    TMPDIR=$HOME lynx
