I think it had to do with this script running on Hakan's Jenkins box, so he can review the change before it goes on? I recall something of that nature.
Another way to allow for that would be a hook on his end where the file gets set aside if changed.

We just made an update to that script today to also extract strings from
.js files: 9336cf28f883614a093df61d075b33c5bbb2386f

But apparently that script automatically reverted itself back by a
self-commit: 552f30c091f5582d3202dc36d4feb11f223dd3b2

I don't understand why it needs to do that. Could you elaborate? Could
you also restore the change that I made earlier?
