It is REALLY what it is (nothing more) ----------------------- To me, the Jabber world (known today as XMPP) is an Instant Messaging platform, which is literally what it is. Freedom ------- I will not say Jabber/XMPP is the best, greatest or divine because I can not quantify best, greatest, divine etc. but I can say that it is an Instant Messaging platform (with its own extra features of PubSub such as Activity, Geolocation, Mood, Tune) which, like IRC, is neither locks us up nor centralized our communications in contradiction to the bad centralized platforms like ICQ, MSN, YIM etc. thus IRC and XMPP are better than other Instant Messaging platforms. Ownership and Independence -------------------------- Movim (also Jappix and any other open source Jabber/XMPP oriented project - or any other decentralized project) gives us the ability to use it, independently and is letting us to utilize it forever without being dependent on 3rd party networks like ICQ, MSN, YIM, and never mind what the number of users is (from 2 to 6,000,000,000), this digital product will stay, if I want it to be, and as such I can have my own social network, controlled by myself, to be used privately amongst family members or colleagues of a certain company. Decentralization ---------------- I care for decentralization and currently I care not to what sort of shape another Jabber/XMPP project will be brought like, because today there are plenty of Jabber/XMPP clients from desktop clients such as MCabber (terminal), Psi, Swift (Qt), Gajim (GTK), Tkabber (Tcl/Tk) etc. to web clients such as Jappix, JWChat, Speeqe etc. I can not have the above (federation, decentralization, own control on privacy, freedom) with ICQ, MSN, YIM.
