I've met the dev of this tool this week end :

basically it's a server-side C++ tool that allows parallel treatments of
medias (but not only) alongside to chained workflows.  It's been
developed to treat huge video files a split the work between several
servers.

It's language agnostic and seemingly really powerful. You just give your
file to the "workers" and the file is going to be proccessed in
background.

Also, this guy is really into decentralized file sharing, and he plans
to develop a seamless bittorent extension (no need for trackers or such,
it'd look like a regular download).

Take a look, it might be of some use for mediagoblin's future
