Yes, we tried that.
Using the Pthreads-w32 library at that stage was quite
complicated to bootstrap, and never really worked. So I
dropped it, in order to restore simplicity:

Let's hope that in future versions, GCC / libgomp will use
the Win32 API directly to implement OpenMP, without any
need for the Pthreads-w32 layer.
Or, alternatively, let's hope that someone fixes the issues
of Pthreads-w32, which hasn't been further developed since 2006.
