There are interesting differences just looking at the configure stage 
output. For one thing, my configure does not have the option 
"--without-pthread".  Your configure has it but there's still a test for 
pthread.

The diff is attached. Can you spot something obvious? I have autoconf 
(GNU Autoconf) 2.65.
