I different interim solution would be to use the --disable-asm configuration switch in x264.mk. That way we get an un-optimized (but working) version of the package.

I'd rather leave it enabled for the time being, yasm 1.2 was released in October 2011 so it's not unreasonable to expect it to be available - the libyasm component may even be a worthwhile addition to mxe.

What OS are you using? Was it simply a matter of updating using your package manager or did you install yasm by hand?

Yasm is very small and builds in seconds, so I've added it and done a native build in x264, also removing it from the requirements:


Looks like other packages (libvpx) also use yasm, so I've installed a prefixed version instead:
