yeah, for sure.

feel free to land simple enough GNUisms or obvious housekeeping tasks
like this with just a note, if you like; so long as you're not
reformatting every line of code or switching to guile or something. 
simpler things I'm clearly missing are probably fine. eg:

 - gettext()ing
 - testsuite expansion
 - texinfo fixes
 - configury refinement
 - .rpm or .deb packaging stuff
 - additional invariants
 - error checking / reporting code
 - portability fixes

I'm thrilled to be receiving patches at all though, thanks!
