Unfortunately nano already has a paradigm for line numbering which was
inherited somewhat from Pico. Nano uses its status bar to show the
line number when you hit ^C (and with the -c option or toggling it
with Meta-C on the fly, it will constantly update this display). I
don't think it's in the cards for nano to support more vi-like line
numbering system.
