I can't find any problem with rebinding ^X, it works fine here.
You probably would want to add a Control combo to exit from nano
-- I would choose ^Q for that, but it's not in your list.

It should not be necessary to unbind keys before rebinding
them. If you found it to be necessary in some cases, then
this is a bug, and it would be good to report it.

If you or others can come up with a list of rebindings that
is complete and consistent and logical, and matches what the
average non-mouse-clicking computer user is likely to try,
I think it would be a good idea to include it as an example
file into the source tree of nano.
