Having a known-stable version is quite valuable, especially in the
enterprise world. That said, distributions have largely taken up the
slack. For example FreeBSD has a quarterly branch that doesn't
receive upgrades except for security relevant changes.
In other words: do what makes your life easier in this case :-)
