Attached is a cleaned-up version, snipping the parts that don't
work, and allowing compilation with --enable-tiny.  Also the
interaction with the hard mark should work now, following the
behaviour sketched in option 1).  In addition, toggling the
hard mark when a soft mark is on, will turn the mark off.

Would anyone want this limited version (without Shift+Home and
Shift+PageUp) included?
