This proposal sounds good to me, with one caveat:
Brand Huntsman:

When the --preserve option is used, Ctrl-S won't be available as a
shortcut for anything, since it will instead act as XOFF. To avoid this
conflict, the toggle should default to something else: maybe Meta-S?
