Good that you can reproduce it in some form, but it can't be caused by
an older ncurses.  I'm running Slackware 14.2, but I've upgraded a few
things (mainly to test the mouse wheel support, which requires at least
ncurses 6).  I'm currently running ncurses-6.1_20180324, vte-0.50.2, and
xfce4-terminal-, and I'm not using the -K option with nano.

For the record. this also happens on my system, despite its differences
with yours.
