The compiler is not good enough.  It causes nano to hang
when doing a regex replacement.

Run for example 'src/nano NEWS' and type:
  M-R  M-R  ^  <Enter>  //  <Enter>  A

Result: nano hangs, and will eventually crash because of
a lack of memory.

Back to gcc.
