Again, one fact and one innocent question. The patch was rushed to master
without giving anyone a chance to test it.

Yes, they should take whitespace before/after the newlines. The problem is that
nano includes ALL non-alphanumeric characters in that "whitespace". It would be
perfect if it only consumed actual whitespace when cutting across newlines.
put cursor at end of this line and cut right
