Follow-up Comment #6, bug #30666 (project octave):

I agree with Judd. MathWorks even plainly admits it was a bug. I don't see
why Octave should emulate it. In fact I think we should fix Octave to be a bit
more strict about this because for instance
a = @sin
a.x = 1

is allowed as well.
