Follow-up Comment #1:
There is no Octave command legendre_Plm as given in your example. It seems
this is your own function or package.
Octave does have the command legendre(), but it doesn't accept the calling
convention you have.
On Octave-3.2.4, your arguments to legendre give
octave-3.2.4:1> legendre (1,1,0.5)
