Follow-up Comment #1:
How do you forsee people using the additional plot options? The options
would be applied to both plots equally which doesn't seem very useful. For
example, plotyy (...,"b+") would set both plots to the same color and using
the same marker. This makes the two plots hard to distinguish from one
another.
Example:
x = linspace(-pi,pi,100);
y1 = sin(x);
y2 = cos(x);
ax = plotyy (x, y1, x - 1, y2, @plot, @plot, "b+");
Attached are two sample plots. One was made using the commands above and the
second was done with the original code showing the automatic selection of
different colors.
If you do need to set common properties it seems like it would be simpler to
use the 3 return arguments from plotyy and then the set function. Using your
example:
[ax, h1, h2] = plotyy (x, y1, x - 1, y2, @plot, @semilogy);
set ([h1,h2], "linewidth", 2);
