Follow-up Comment #2, bug #31898 (project octave):
Thanks a lot, I had stumbled on this article as well, but did not get it to
work. Now I got this resolved.
I did put the following two lines into ~/.Xresources file:
gnuplot*font: mbfont:-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal----100-100---iso10646-*
gnuplot*encoding: utf-8
After that I ran this command to reload the configuration:
xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
