Details:

I sent the email below to the maintainer list on 7/28/2010, but
a similar hang happened to me using the current development system. This is a
difficult problem to examine since it happens
randomly, and the exact sequence that triggers it seems to change.

In the text attached I was able to cause the failure while running under gdb.
 I hope this helps someone to
find the problem.

It would be a worry if the coming release goes out with this problem.  When
it happens all current work is lost since the
only recovery is to close the window, or kill -9 from another
window.

The original hang happened when I ssh'ed into another machine
and ran:
find('a')
find('a')
find('abca')
help find
>>hang here<<  requires kill -9

===================================
This sequence produced the attached gdb output.

The most recent hang was triggered by
help strcmp

so, the string following the find seems not to be the
problem.
