I try to compile on MinGW an ran into this error too. Can you be a bit more
specific in which file (line) this workaround has to be applied.

I have changed 
libgnu/gethostname.c @ line 29
(I know this is autogenerated from gnulib/lib/gethostname.c)

but that does not help. I still get the error you have described in your
original submission.

I am using a gnulib from yesterday an gcc 4.5.2
