If a graphics object handle is empty, trying to access a property displays a
warning that might be confusing:

octave> a=[]
a = [](0x0)
octave> get(a,'x')
warning: implicit conversion from matrix to real vector
ans = [](0x0)
octave> get([],'x')
warning: implicit conversion from null_matrix to real vector
ans = [](0x0)

Silently returning an empty matrix seems enough.
