Follow-up Comment #4, bug #32840 (project octave):
It used to be quite common to have multiple architectures all sharing the same
/usr filesystem via NFS. Maybe this isn't all that common now, but I don't
see sufficient motivation to remove it, especially for a point release. As
for /usr/lib vs /usr/lib64, is that a standard? Octave just provides some
defaults here. If packagers don't like the defaults, then they are free to
choose something different. Debian does that for example by making libexecdir
be the same as libdir.
