Follow-up Comment #14, bug #36732 (project octave):


Your explanation shows why strict monotonicity
is required.  The function should generate an
error.  Matlab does:

>> interp1 ([1,2,2,3,4],[0,1,4,2,1],[-1,1.5,2,2.5,3.5], 'linear', 'extrap'),
??? Error using ==> interp1 at 261
The values of X should be distinct.

But, I think that it would be better to say "strictly monotonic"
instead of "distinct."
