Follow-up Comment #51, bug #36732 (project octave):

This bug is still being discussed on the
maintainers list.  The discussants seem not to
have read the code. The code:

 ## check whether x is sorted; sort if not.
  if (! issorted (x, "either"))
    [x, p] = sort (x);
    y = y(p,:);

is ALWAYS exected by intrp1.m. This is why the documentation
should say the data are sorted as shown above.  
It is hard to see why this causes a problem.
