Follow-up Comment #2, bug #37858 (project octave): Yes, the spectrogram and specgram are both part of the signal processing matlab toolbox. I didn't know about matlab ( and by extension octave ) being separated into a core and several toolboxes. So I guess this is an invalid bug, and a new one should be open at http://sourceforge.net/p/octave/bugs/.
