Follow-up Comment #1, bug #39243 (project octave): This makes me wonder how/when listeners are executed in Matlab. Ben, would you be able to verify it? Create a "bar" graph, install a listener on the xdata and ydata (which will print the corresponding values, for instance) and use a single "set" call to change both properties at the same time.
