Follow-up Comment #12, bug #40792 (project octave):

I am on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, using Octave dev version with JIT. I do always
get the behavior that Joaquin described with fltk, namely the command window
loses keyboard focus after closing a plot window, but I never thought of it as
an Octave bug because after I close a plot window I habitually alt-tab back to
the command window anyway. I guess it just became second nature to type Ctrl-W
Alt-Tab. I have on rare occasion encountered similar keyboard-focus-losing
with the Code::Blocks IDE. I've been told (but cannot independently verify)
that the Unity UI may interact a little oddly with programs using Qt or
QScintilla libraries. If you have access to a Linux machine not using Unity
(either a non-Ubuntu distro or an Ubuntu variant like Kubuntu/Lubuntu/Xubuntu
etc that uses a different window manager), could you verify Octave's behavior
there? If the command window regains keyboard focus there, it's a Unity quirk
and not an Octave GUI quirk.

I cannot get the "broken pipe" error with gnuplot (using gnuplot 4.4
patchlevel 3).
