Follow-up Comment #8, bug #41213 (project octave):


Sadly, I guess this is the safest and best choice. The obvious
negative is that JIT will get less exposure.  It will
be good to make sure that packagers are aware of this
change so that, if they are packaging for hardware and
systems that work they need to use --enable-jit.
