Follow-up Comment #2:
I've been able to reproduce this with a couple different versions of gcj using
our class loader, same result, so I've filed a bug with gcc upstream at
http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=60309
Until that is fixed though, it might make sense to have some kind of a test in
configure. This is a very specific case and probably not that important to
most users, so I may not get around to working on such a test for a while.
