Follow-up Comment #8, bug #32296 (project octave):

Using the following changes to cfg_callbuiltin.m and helper functions
oct_findfield.m and oct_fixsubs.m I was able to run the simple batch file
attached (test.m).

I'm sure it requires testing but I think the way Octave's builtin() is
implemented can be worked around with this approach.
