OK. I agree. Wrong answers do make me nervous!
But, 4.0 release should take precedence.

And, as you mention, the effect on users will vary depending
on what glibc they have.  And therefore, of course, it
affects people using other software that relies on
the log definition of actanh and other functions.

So, OK, but try to remember for sometime after 4.0 release.
At that point it might make sense to review the elementary
functions in mappers.cc as well. And, does Octave support
any other math library on systems which do not have glibc?
I did not think it did, but have not checked.
