Follow-up Comment #21, bug #44380 (project octave):
I don't know what Windows does behind the scenes for managing virtual memory.
In any case, I don't think this is an Octave bug. All Octave does is request
memory from C++ operator new and occasionally the C library malloc function.
Those are outside the scope of the Octave project. Given that the limits
appear to fluctuate, it seems to me that the limits have something to do with
other processes that might be running on your system, or whatever is happening
with the operating system's memory management.
