Follow-up Comment #108, bug #44478 (project octave):
Dynamically linking won't solve the problem for reasons that I've already
explained.
A special version of Octave that only links in libOSMesa and not libGL does
not solve the problem of offscreen rendering for figures that have the visible
property set to "off".
