Follow-up Comment #2, bug #49054 (project octave):

I think the OP is talking about the OS file browser.

This would require a couple of changes, probably need to be reported as
separate bugs:

* the ability to call Octave with a foo.m file name, possibly with some extra
command-line option, and have that file be opened in the Octave editor
* the ability to send Octave some kind of IPC signal to open a file name in
the editor when Octave is already running
* the (possibly optional) ability for Octave to know that an instance of
Octave is already running, and send an IPC signal to the other instance of
itself to open the file

I think users will want the ability to do both actions from the OS file
browser, either run an m file as an executable script with Octave (calling
Octave as an interpreter), or edit it with Octave's editor (calling Octave as
an editor/IDE).
