Follow-up Comment #15, bug #49223 (project octave):

@Dan: I pushed your cset making pdflatex and pdflatexstandalone options for
gnuplot (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/83f106bfcb37).

If there is no easy way to direct gnuplot to remove the gplbacktext macro then
we could do it ourselves.  It would be simple to rely on an outside tool like
sed or perl, but more portable if we just did it ourselves.  It wouldn't be
that hard to fopen the file, search and replace this one string, and then
close it again.

I did use 'grep gplbactext' on the generated tex file and it was found three
times.  We would need to use the more specific pattern
