Follow-up Comment #4, bug #49794 (project octave): It's really related to this report, but it's also worth mentioning that MATLAB introduced a new system for customizing display of objects (classdef objects). This includes a new "details" function as well as a "CustomDisplay" interface which classes can inherit/implement.
