Follow-up Comment #6:

I don't think we need to be anything more than Matlab compatible here.  I
checked in a change (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/c9ef5571e11a)
which prevents changing to a log scale for the colorbar and issues an error if
it is attempted.
