Follow-up Comment #1:
Alas, computers just aren't very smart--at least not until we get true
artificial intelligence. Octave is plotting the correct function, since it is
up to the user to decide whether they want element-by-element multiplication
or matrix multiplication.
I've changed the bug report title to be about the Matlab incompatibility and
marking that as confirmed.
