Details:

I'm trying to set up an external editor for Octave 4.2.1
 
First, I choose "Edit" Menu, then go to the "Preferences", click on the
"Editor" tab, check "Use external editor", and put

xed %f

in the "command line" field, but when I try to open a file from the File
Browser, it opens several empty files instead.
