Follow-up Comment #21, bug #51388 (project octave):

On Windows, / and \ are both accepted as directory separators, but won't
compare equal if we just do string comparisons.

Maybe we need "same_file" or "same_directory" functions?

Oh, we do have a same_file function.  It doesn't look at the names, but uses
stat (or the Windows equivalent) and checks inodes and device ids.  The idea
was to know whether two links (hard or symbolic) refer to the same file.
