Follow-up Comment #2, bug #52141 (project octave):
OK, I've had a look at this again. The new changeset should be about right.
I made the x and y-axis tick code symmetric, i.e., basically the same code.
More than that, the logic seemed to simplify quite a bit to the point where it
seemed easier to not use maybe_do_xtick_mirror() and maybe_do_x2tick_mirror(),
so I've removed those routines. I think it is basically the same behavior in
the end; I suppose in the evolution of the code it became somewhat crufty.
