Follow-up Comment #1, bug #52186 (project octave): After dumping the gnuplot script using the debug version of drawnow() and experimenting with it, I noticed that the following gnuplot commands are generated if an annotation is present: set tmargin screen 1; set bmargin screen 0; set lmargin screen 0; set rmargin screen 1; Commenting out these lines makes the border disappear.
