Follow-up Comment #46, bug #51871 (project octave):

No hurry...  The easiest way to highlight what I've modified (which really
isn't that much) is to run

meld speed-up-load-ascii-v5.patch speed-up-load-ascii-v8.patch &
(make a getline version that handles all EOL, i.e., 'EOL_tst.txt' example)

and

meld speed-up-load-ascii-v4.patch speed-up-load-ascii-v5.patch &
(handle the overflow/underflow ranges with proper sign, i.e., 'ERANGE_tst.txt'
example)

Keep in mind that my generated patch files may have had the minimum diff hunk
size different than someone else's settings, so in meld there are often a
bunch of adds/removes which are effectively no change.
